ESEP-G, ESEP-UC 2019 Report

Overview

In ESEP-G, 20 students were chosen from our partner universities. The programs were five to six weeks in duration this year; the first group began on June 24, and the second group began on July 1.

Each participant chose a laboratory based on his or her research field and interests among the 11 fields of Engineering.

Supported by the instructors and local students of their laboratories, the participants did lab work and research. They were glad to be able to handle cutting-edge equipment and do their research experiments in the laboratories.

We also welcomed 11 students from the University of California from June 28 to August 8. This program is called ESEP-UC.

Both ESEP-G and ESEP-UC programs included the following extracurricular activities. These activities were unforgettable opportunities for the participants to experience Japanese culture and get to know each other.

 

≪Extracurricular activities≫

First day Orientation and campus tour

July 2　10:00 - 11:30 1st Japanese language class 1st (Introductory level*)

July 5　13:00 - 14:30 2nd Japanese language class 2nd (Introductory level*)

*Intermediate and beginner classes were also provided.

July 5　18:00 - 20:00 Summer Party (optional)

July 9　Wadaiko (Japanese drum) workshop : AM-Group A, PM- Group B)

July 18 Bus tour to Hakone

July 23　10:00-12:00 Laboratory tour

The programs concluded with the submission of a report following a presentation at each laboratory. From these reports and presentations, it was clear that the participants built up their skills through their research activities. By the end of the program, several participants showed strong determination to enter the University of Tokyo for further study.

Accommodation

Accommodations were provided for the ESEP-G Students. Located about 50 minutes from the UTokyo (Hongo campus) by train, they had single rooms with shared facilities.
